artificial intelligence
AI is arguably the biggest thing happening in tech since the introduction of the smartphone. AI / ML first really started to change fast when people figured out how to have it identify thigs in photos (most of which were taken and uploaded to social media from smartphones). Then the real explosion happened with the release of ChatGPT in Nov 2022, which shocked the world with what it could do. Now, AI is the first thing on everyone's mind to do ... well almost everything.
Today we will talk about AI in general, and then some specific aspects:
- Prof. Neal Patwari will talk about equity in AI and algorithms.
- Famous first example: image classification of photos of people (gender, race, age...) - black women misidentified most often - 2018/2019.
- This brought up the topic of what data sets are used to train these models, what happens in the algorithms themselves, with huge data sets, it really isn't feasible to go through and manually correct the data sets - the whole reason you're tying to use AI is probably because the numbers of things in the sets are so astronomical.
