What's in a Camera? And the Basics of Optics
Your cell phone has great cameras, but how does it do that? Why do they have multiple cameras? What about lenses? Long vs short focal length, aperture size and how these influence depth and width of field. How is that picked up? Digital Image sensors. CCD vs CMOS. How do color sensors work? What about Photos in dark – the sensitivity of image sensor. How does a digital portrait mode work? How can you erase parts of an image (magic eraser, GoPro removal of selfie stick). Or stitch panoramas together. And there's more ... Focal depth series – identification of “in focus”. Blurring filters, AR cat heads, Slo mo, time lapse. Image editing and processing – brightness, contrast, resizing, digital zoom, color balance. Facial recognition – LED/laser illumination, camera, recognition algorithms. Training and Analog and digital signals – And that raises questions of ethics, privacy, bias towards some ethnic groups.
