Research on learning indicates that your environment and sources of support influence your capacity to focus, innovate, and manage stress. In this activity, you will create your own sociogram of support by identifying the people, places, and groups in your life that provide personal and professional support. We have provided three examples of Drs. Furse, Metz, & Tao, so you can see how their sociograms include several types of support systems (e.g., friends, family, organizations, faith, etc.). In your future roles as project leaders, lab directors, and research managers, developing a sociogram will also enable you to identify the types of relationships within your team. Sociograms for leadership provide valuable data on the areas of strength as well as gaps in group dynamics, which will help you identify your employees' and mentees' needs.
Instructions: Look at the examples Drs. Furse, Metz & Tao have provided of their current sociograms. Using the same template, complete your own sociogram. Indicate current sources of support, previous sources of support, or gaps in support using the key on the template. You will then submit your sociogram to Canvas.
