Superposition - power from multiple sources.
Most circuits you will ever encounter are linear systems. If you have multiple voltage or current sources, you can simplify the circuits by analyzing the effect (the resultant currents and voltages within the circuit) from each source individually, and then add them up to find the total voltages and currents within the circuit. This is a common technique for analyzing circuits, but perhaps even more important, we often have multiple sources (such as the off-grid van below), and we might be switching them in and out of the system to maintain just enough power for our system.
Questions of the Day (Learning Objectives)
- What is a linear system?
- How do you apply superposition to a circuit problem with multiple sources?
