Student Use
Let's uncover some ways students can tap into the power of AI! From making studying more efficient to unlocking creative solutions, AI is like a useful sidekick for learners. However, we need to help them know how to use it properly. (As you've seen, AI can come up with lots of false information). In this section, we'll explore how students can use AI tools to boost their learning journey. Whether it's getting help with tough homework, organizing study materials, or even sparking new ideas.
Student Use
Brainstorming Ideas
Utilizing Generative AI (such as Chat GPT or Bard), students have the incredible ability to kickstart their research papers or projects. By offering a broad subject area, students can ask Generative AI to brainstorm a set of focused research questions. These suggestions serve as a springboard, empowering students to review and fine-tune these ideas, shaping them into solid and precise research queries for their assignments. You will want to help students know how to look for hallucinations and how to fact check. (See further resources at the bottom of the page for some helpful links for your students and yourself.) |
Learning New Concepts

Students can leverage Generative AI's abilities by asking it to simplify complex concepts in various ways. They can prompt Generative AI to break down explanations or summarize main ideas from readings or lectures. Additionally, students can seek Generative AI's feedback on their own paraphrased understandings, enhancing their learning beyond textbooks and notes. It's crucial to guide learners in understanding that combining their existing knowledge with these prompts significantly boosts their effectiveness in grasping new concepts. Refining Notes & Study
Much like with fresh ideas, students can turn to Generative AI to review their notes. Generative AI can offer advice on expanding, organizing, and checking how well students grasp the information. As students move through different modules and courses, their thoughts and notes will naturally grow and change, reflecting their evolving understanding of the curriculum. |

These are all just ideas for you. Depending on your field of expertise and course learning objectives, you will want students to use AI in different ways. But we do want to help students know how to use it.
