Use a mason jar to bring beautiful hummingbirds to your yard!

Supplies:

  • 4 ounce mason jar
  • Red paint
  • Paintbrush 
  • Hole puncher
  • Scissors
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • String or yarn

  1. Remove band and lid from the mason jar and paint the lid red. Let dry.
  2. Punch 4 equally spaced holes in the lid using a hole puncher. If necessary, ask an adult for help.
  3. Make hummingbird nectar by combining 1 cup boiling water and 1/4 cup white sugar. Follow a ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part sugar if you make more or less than the amount specified. Let cool.
  4. Tie two strings around the base of the jar and join the ends together to create a hanger for the nectar feeder.
  5. Fill the jar with nectar, screw on the lid and hang your hummingbird feeder on a tree!
