Part 1: Why Study EM?

1- Visit at least 2 of the EM web links : EM Links

2- List as many devices or applications which use EM as you can (at least 10).    These can be things you see or use, that you read about in this text or others, or that you find on the web.  There will be a prize for the largest number found.

3- Read  Download Why Study EM.pdf

(general interest) OR  Download bogatin signal integrity.pdf (about EM issues in high speed digital) on the website.

4- Visit monster.com or any of your favorite job-seeking websites and determine a typical salary range for an RF Engineer.  Typical search terms would be RF / Microwave / Antenna / Signal Integrity Engineer.

 Bring this assignment to class with you next time.

Part 2 -- What are electric and magnetic fields, and what causes them? (What are the sources?) What are their units, and the units on all related constants?

Verify that the units agree (left hand side of equation has same units as right hand side of equation) in equations 1.7 (Force), 1.8 (electric field) ,1.16 (magnetic field) ,1.13 (magnetic flux density) in the text.  See:
