Lab 3 (Do Lab 3 this week) - Dielectric Materials and Attenuation
- Due Oct 21, 2019 by 11:59pm
- Points 300
- Submitting a file upload
In this lab, you will learn how to use a network analyzer and measure the complex dielectric constant of different materials. Here Download Here is a brief into to making measurements with network analyzers.
NOTE 1: Bring a laptop if possible so you can easily access a word processor. Meet in the Microwave Lab (MEB 2275). Complete the Pre-Lab before going to your lab section. Turn in all required documents to Canvas.
Note 2: The lab procedure has two parts (100 points total, lab book). Depending upon how quickly you get the probe calibration working, you may not be able to complete both parts in a single lab session. If not, there is an additional lab session schedule during the subsequent week.
Pre-Lab (complete before going to lab 3): Lab 3 Prelab.docx Download Lab 3 Prelab.docx
The prelab references a publication of dielectric properties of different media. This is a paper Download paper that contains the same data, and then some.

Grading Rubric: Lab 3 Grading.xlsx Download Lab 3 Grading.xlsx
Make sure to review the rubric as you work through the prelab, perform the lab, and write your report. Fill out each section of the rubric with the number of points you think you should receive for each graded requirement.
Turn in Lab 3:
- Do this lab this week.
- Turn in your Pre-Lab and Lab here.
- Labs are due one week after your regularly scheduled lab. If that is a holiday (like fall break), it's due the next week.
