Prospective Students

The ECE Student Hub is supported by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  The purpose is to provide a central location for students to receive department announcements and event updates.

If you haven't already, we strongly suggest turning on Canvas notifications so that you receive an email when notifications are posted (click on "View Course Notifications" in the right-hand tool bar). You can easily sort through the announcements to find what you are looking for.  Common announcements include:

In order for your application to be considered for full-major status, you must first notify your advisor that you would like to be designated as either Pre-Electrical Engineering or Pre-Computer Engineering. 

 

B.S. Electrical Engineering Entry Requirements B.S. Computer Engineering Entry Requirements
Complete the following classes: 
Math 1310/1210 Calculus I 

Complete the following classes: 
ECE 1250 or ECE 1240, 1245, &10500 ECE Design 
Math 1310/1210 Calculus I 
Math 1320/1220 Calculus II 
Phys 2210 Physics for Engineers I 
CS 1410 Intro to Object-Oriented Programming 
CS 2420 Algorithms & Data Structures 
WRTG 2010 2nd Year College Writing
Pre-Major GPA of 2.8 or higher Pre-Major GPA of 2.8 or higher
Cumulative U of U GPA of 2.5 or higher Cumulative U of U GPA of 2.5 or higher

 

Once you have completed all the pre-requisite classes for your chosen major, please complete the Full-Major Status Admissions module.

Student Clubs

Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders Links to an external site. is a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internationally responsible engineers and engineering students.

 

IEEE

IEEE Links to an external site. is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

 

The Women in Engineering (WIE) program

The Women in Engineering (WIE) program Links to an external site. is dedicated to serving the community of women graduate and undergraduate engineering/computer science students in the College of Engineering. WIE will focus on retention, recruitment and overall climate enhancement activities. The WIE community includes women of from all seven engineering departments at the University of Utah.

 

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

Utah’s Society of Women Engineers Links to an external site. is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.

 

Tau Beta Pi

Tau Beta Pi Links to an external site. is the only national engineering honor society at the University of Utah. TBP members are known not only for their academic excellence, but also for their excellent character and leadership qualities. Moreover, the engineering industry is filled with TBP members, so employers know from experience that members make good employees.

 

Aerospace club

The Aerospace Club at the University of Utah is a student chapter of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The AIAA promotes the study of aeronautics and astronautics at the University of Utah, helps students to find related employment, sponsors projects for student participation, and organizes activities that complement aerospace education. Club projects include a wide application of Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, and Computer engineering principles.
