When you are researching a topic and trying fond evidence to support your argument or document the pros and cons to your idea, you might want to consider additional sources to help you triangulate your findings or arguments. Don’t Forget About Other Library Resources, Tools, and People
- You can email and set up one-on-one research consultation or contact them about resources or using citation management software. To get the list of Library Liaisons (Links to an external site.) with email links; along with a list of library departments (Links to an external site.
- The Undergraduate Writing Center ( https://utah.mywconline.com/ (Links to an external site.)) which is located on the 2nd floor of the Marriott Library can assist with writing
- The Graduate Writing Center Links to an external site. is located on the first floor of the Marriott Library in room 1180. It is located in side of the Graduate Reading Room (
- Subject Guides are set up by the library liaisons and contain resources for every discipline. You can find the guide on the library home page navigation menu or here http://campusguides.lib.utah.edu/index.php (Links to an external site.) - search by your discipline.
There are also how-to guides on things like: - The library offers workshops (Links to an external site.) each semester, you can find the list under workshops on the library homepage or here if they are being offered. Need a workshop or have a group of students that want a workshop - let us know and we will get one in the works.
- Can’t find articles or books in the library you need for your research? You have several options to help you get the research materials you need:
- Interlibrary Loan (ILL) (Links to an external site.) (login with your Unid and password to request articles, books, etc)
- Suggest a Purchase (Links to an external site.)
If you think a book you need would be a valuable resource in our collection you can suggest the library purchase it for you - Request that a book be pulled for you.
- If the library is open you can click on the Log In to Request button to request the book and then pick it up at the security desk on the first floor when you receive an email
- If the library is closed due to COVID-19 regulations you can request the book be mailed to you. See this video for a how-to for having a book sent to you during the COVID-19 pandemic

- There is more than ONE Library. The University of Utah has the Marriott Library AND ALSO a Law, a Music, and a Health Sciences Library. Each Library has a phone and email contact info on their homepage and Eccles and the Marriott have a virtual chat option as well. Level Up to Advanced Skills
- Look to your successful predecessors for completed theses and dissertations in the Proquest Theses and Dissertation Database

- Although dissertations are not considered 'scholarly' sources - you can mind them for methods, references, and to see what a good completed literature looks like.
- These are long documents - read chapter 1 for an intro to the topic, chapter 2 if you are interested in the literature review, chapter 3 for the methodology, and skip to the end to find references and instruments.
