Course Objective
The main objective for this course (and the following Advanced Game Studio II) is to provide students an organized environment to continue to hone the skills, roles, and techniques learned in the first year of the MEAE program. While these competencies include track-specific techniques and tools, as well as the pre-production and rapid prototyping hallmarks of "find the fun" and "fail fast," the true focus of this final project-based course is to practice being an effective contributor on a large team making an entertainment game.

The course is structured to simulate some of the methods found in many professional game studios, while still providing faculty oversight of the stated academic learning objectives. As for any project-based course, it is critical for students to be self-directed and committed to completing all assignments and fulfilling their designated role on their team.

The Learning Outcomes for this course are:

  • Students will be able to identify processes, create plans, and execute those plans to develop a game from pre-production through alpha, beta, and published milestones.
  • Students will demonstrate key techniques of independent learning, including being able to make informed choices regarding schedules, workload, and goal setting.
  • Students will be able to collect, assess, prioritize, and apply criticism into the development of a game.

Changes to Syllabus
This syllabus is not a contract.
It is meant to serve as an outline and guide for your course. Please note that your instructor may modify it to accommodate the needs of your class.

Attendance:

Attendance for class is mandatory. It's important for you to show up for your team throughout the semester. However, we understand things happen. We will take attendance every class period at 10:30 am, but we will drop the three lowest scores.

If you need to miss an class entirely, you must contact your professors in advance of the class in order for the absence to be excused.

Late Assignments
Late work will be accepted with permission only. There is a 10% reduction to the grade every 24hrs after the original due date/time.

Students who participate in officially sanctioned University activities (e.g., marching band, debate, athletics) will be permitted to turn work in early and/or make up assignments without penalty. Official absences must be documented at least one week prior to the absence.
