Individualized Development Plan (IDP) Values Assignment (CD8)

The following assignment will help you identify, clarify, and prioritize your career-related values. Your work-related values are important to understand as they can help you define the work environment in which you are likely to function best and the conditions of a job that will keep you motivated.

Step 1: Log in to My IDP: https://myidp.sciencecareers.org

Step 2: Navigate to the “Values Assessment” Quick Tips page. Read the Quick Tips tab to learn more about the IDP values assessment.  

Step 3: At the bottom of the page you will see, "To learn more about values self-assessment, read an article on this topic."  Click on this link and read the article, "What Do You Care About."

Step 4: Once you've read the article, click back to the Values Assessment homepage. Click "My Assessment" and take the assessment. Then review the summary of your values.

Step 5: Write a brief reflection (5-10 sentences) on what you learned about yourself answering the following questions:

• What are your top five essential work values?
• How do you think you developed these work values? Relate any relevant learning experiences.
• Have any of your work values changed over time? Explain.
• How can you determine if a particular job or career path will allow you to realize your top work values?
• If you are working in a job and one of your essential work values is no longer realized, what can you do (if you wanted to remain employed at that company)?

Step 6: Upload this assignment (CD8) to CANVAS.
