Individualized Development Plan (IDP) Interests Assignment (CD4)

The following assignment will help you define the scientific tasks that you enjoy doing and would like to include as integral elements of your career.  It might also highlight tasks that you would like to avoid.

Step 1: Log in to My IDP: https://myidp.sciencecareers.org/ Links to an external site.

Step 2: Navigate to the “Interests Assessment” Quick Tips page. Read the Quick Tips tab to learn more about the IDP interests assessment.  

Step 3: At the bottom of the page you will see, "To learn more about interests self-assessment, read an article on this topic."  Click on this link and read the article, "Interests."

Step 4: Once you've read the article, click back to the Interest Assessment homepage. Click "My Assessment" and take the assessment. Then review the summary of your interests.

Step 5: Write a brief reflection (5-10 sentences) on what you learned about yourself answering the following questions:

• What are five scientific tasks (interests) you would like to include as integral elements of your career?
• Select one and create a S.M.A.R.T. goal for engaging in that task before you graduate.

Step 6: Upload this assignment (CD4) to CANVAS.
