Individualized Development Plan (IDP) Skills Assignment (CD3)

The following assignment will help you identify the scientific skills and knowledge areas in which you are proficient and those that could use some attention.

Step 1: Register for My IDP: https://myidp.sciencecareers.org/ Links to an external site.

Step 2: Log in and go to the homepage.  First, read the "Overview Summary" to understand the process of developing and implementing an Individualized Development Plan (IDP). Then under the "Assessment" tab on the left side of the homepage screen, click "Skills Assessment." Read the Quick Tips tab to learn more about the IDP skills assessment.  

Step 3: At the bottom of the page you will see, "To learn more about skills self-assessment, read an article on this topic."  Click on this link and read the article, "So You Think You Have Skills."

Step 4: Once you've read the article, click back to the Skills Assessment homepage. Click "My Assessment" and take the assessment. Then review the summary of your skills.

Step 5: Write a brief reflection (5-10 sentences) on what you learned about yourself answering the following questions:

• What are five skills you currently have?
• Choose one and describe how you developed that skill.
• What skills do you think you still need to develop to pursue this field?
• What is your plan for developing these skills?
