The board we're using for CS/ECE 3710 are the Terasic DE1-SoC boards. These are extremely powerful development boards with a large Cyclone V FPGA and lots of pre-wired I/O including switches, LEDs, 7-segment displays, VGA DAC, Audio CODEC, and much more.

Information about the DE1-SoC board is here. This is the definitive document for finding things like what FPGA pins are attached to which resources on the board. You will want this by your side when you assign pins from your design to the board before uploading your design to the board. It also has lots of information about how to use many of the features on the board.
A comprehensive tutorial on loading and using the Quartus/Questa tools is here. Your first assignment will be to follow this tutorial, but you'll probably want to refer to it later in the semester until all these steps become second nature.
Altera documentation on the Cyclone V FPGA chip that's on the board is here. This document has all the details on the features of the FPGA including the look up tables, the programmable interconnect, the programmable block RAMs (BRAM), the phase locked loop (PLL) for timing, and much much more.

This is a document that walks you through the Quartus Timing Analyzer and how to add timing constraints to your design prior to mapping onto the FPGA chip.
If you want to try to use the 64MB (32M x 16) SDRAM that's on the FPGA board, you'll need an SDRAM controller which is very complex. This example from Terasic (the company that makes the board) includes an SDRAM controller, but I haven't yet figured out how to actually make it work. If you're curious, you can take a look.
