Get to Know Your InstructorS
Read the course syllabus
The Syllabus will provide you with:
- Course Description: overview of course information, goals & objectives, required materials, & methods of evaluation
- Course Policies: submitting assignments, grading, & accommodations
- Student & Instructor Expectations: what you agree to upon taking this course
- Institutional Policies: drop & withdrawal, plagiarism, health & safety, & support for students of all backgrounds
- Course Content Summary: due dates & important assignments. Note additional assignments will be added throughout the semester. This is the first time we have taught this course (we're excited about it!), and are developing it as we go.
Please read it carefully. You should be familiar with the schedule and process of the course.
Plan Your Schedule
Review the Syllabus to see the modules scheduled for this semester. There are no exams. There are three major types of assignments:
- Pre-class: This is preparation material you need to read/watch/complete before the next class. It's very important to come prepared with this information, as it will be needed and used during the in-class activities.
- In-class: These are activity assignments that we will complete during class. Group work will be done during class, for instance, so that you don't have to schedule additional time outside of class for this. If you miss class, plan that you will need to spend about 1.5 hours (similar to being in class) to complete an assignment with similar learning objectives.
- Post-class: This is work to be completed after class (sometimes finishing up work we started in class, reflecting on what you learned in class (particularly when we have guest speakers), or other types of homework.
How much time will this take? Not every day will have every type of activity, but we will shoot for roughly this ... between each class you should plan to spend 1.5 - 2 hours doing a combination of pre- and post- class assignments. Please mark appropriate t time on your calendar.
