Module sensors: Overview & Instructions
To-Do Date: Oct 22 at 12:30pmModule sensors
Overview
In this module, we are going to explore the many, many sensors found in our phones. Sensors measure something about the outside world (temperature, speed, tilt, location, sound, etc.), and bring that information into the phone, so the computer circuits in the phone can decide what to do with it. We'll talk about how GPS (Global Positioning System) works, the compass, orientation sensors (how iPhone knows to turn on screen when you pick it up), accelerometers, negotiations with close by cell towers, online and offline navigation, barometric pressure, and more. We'll also talk about biological sensors for body temperature, perfusion, heart rate, step tracking sensors (fitness watches). And we'll consider issues of privacy, forensics, security, and more.
