Module 2 (Weeks 2,3): Overview & Instructions
To-Do Date: Jan 26 at 11:59pmOverview & Instructions
This module is an introduction to RF filters.
Ensure that you complete the following:
Learning Objectives:
- Understand different types of filters (LP, HP, BP, BS) and the parameters used to define them.
- Design Butterworth, Chebyshev, Elliptic filters with lumped elements.
- Convert from LP to HP, BP, BS designs.
- Convert lumped element designs to distributed element designs (stub and stepped impedance filters).
- Understand "what could possibly go wrong??"
Activities: This module is 2 weeks long. Earn 100 total points for this module from some combination of the following:
- Module 2: Assignment 2a Lumped Element LP Filter Design (20 pts)
- Module 2: Assignment 2b Converting LP Filter Design to HP, BP, BS (20 pts)
- Module 2: Assignment 2c Converting Lumped Element Designs to Stub Filter (20 pts)
- Module 2: Assignment 2d Converting Lumped Element Designs to Stepped Impedance Filter (20 pts)
-
Module 2: Tutorial -- RF Filters (20 points, plus 10 points extra credit)
- Note: You may do up to three tutorials, provided they are significantly different. (For instance, designing with Butterworth and then with Chebyshev is too similar, but designing with Butterworth, and then converting from LP to HP, is significantly different.) If you want to do extra tutorials, let me know, and I'll post a separate assignment for each one.
- Module 2 -- Filters: Muddiest Point Discussion (10 pts)
- Module 2: Class Feedback (10 pts)
