Instructions
The midterm will start at 9am, administered on Canvas. Here are some of the main rules and instructions:
** Open notes policy **
- You are allowed to reference any course material (i.e. slides, lecture notes, textbooks and etc.) that you have downloaded prior to the start of the exam.
- You are not allowed to look-up any resources online while the exam session is in progress.
** Tips for the exam **
- How to write algorithms? Use either a bulleted list, or write pseudocode with indentation provided by spaces.
- How to write math? You will not need to use too many formulas in this midterm. Whenever needed, simply use standard text. Canvas also has an option for inserting equations, but I don't suggest wasting time on that.
- Proofs of correctness? Most of the problems explicitly say that proofs of correctness aren't necessary. Given the format of the exam, time constraints, etc., this seemed the best option. Please pay attention to the instructions for each question.
- Questions & clarifications: we will monitor questions directed to the instructors on Piazza. This is the preferred medium for contacting us (we may not check on time if questions are sent by email or other means). Please make sure you post only to the instructors, not to everyone.
** Preparing before the exam **
- Please make sure you have downloaded all the material you will need.
- Go over the lecture notes and reading material.
- Go over the practice midterm and HW solutions.
** Connectivity problems **
- You might encounter submission problems either due to Canvas or due to internet issues. Canvas shows the time when the quiz was last auto-saved -- check this once in a while.
- Before you hit submit, print the page to pdf, so that you have a local copy of all your answers.
- If you want to be extra-safe, you can type your answers in another place (like a text editor), and paste them into the appropriate boxes.
That is all, good luck with the midterm!
