We will use the app Stop Motion Studio to create an animation movie on your phones/tablet!

Your Instructor: College of Fine Arts

Difficulty: Medium

Length of Activity: 60 Minutes

Parental Warnings: IPad/tablet use

Supplies:

  • Smartphone or tablet 
  • "Stop Motion Studio" app
    • Free to download 
  • Playdough or Modeling Clay
  • Paper for some kind of backdrop
  • Paper for storyboarding
  • Bin of gathered small toys from around the house (Legos, figures, blocks, cut up drawings, photos or magazine images, etc.) 
  • Flashlight (or other small light source like booklight or lamp)

  1. Download App
  2. Gather supplies
  3. Set up backdrop and pay attention to lighting
  4. Draft up a storyboard idea with a beginning, middle and end
  5. Place figures/toys onto backdrop and take a photo
  6. Move the figure/toy a small amount and take another photograph
  7. Continue to think about your story, character development, composition and lighting
  8. Repeat step 6 over and over until you feel like you’ve built an awesome story
  9. Watch and share your work!
  10. Be proud of yourself.
