We will be discussing how praying mantis’ hatch and making our own praying mantis!

Supplies:

  • Cardboard/toilet paper roll
  • Green construction paper
  • Green and yellow pipe cleaners
  • Makers/crayons/etc.
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Written Instructions (Printable PDF)

  1. Cut the toilet paper roll in a saddle like shape.
  2. Glue construction paper on to roll or color it in green.
  3. Use construction paper to cut out triangular shaped head.
  4. Draw on a face.
  5. Take two green pipe cleaners and shape them to create legs and arms.
  6. Make an L shape on one end, a rainbow shape in the middle, and a V shape on the other end.
  7. Twist the two pipe cleaners together in the middle.
  8. Glue the toilet paper roll on to the pipe cleaners (where the two are twisted).
  9. Glue the face on to the side of the toilet paper roll that has the V shaped arms.
  10. Cut two small pieces of yellow pipe cleaner and glue onto back of head to create antennas
