Written Instructions (Printable PDF)

  1. Fold three paper plates in half. Then, bend each one back along the fold.
  2. Cut one plate along the fold. Cut a strip from the edge of one half.
  3. Mix glue and yellow, red, and orange paint.
  4. Paint the plates (The first whole plate paint only red for the inside of the mouth. The remaining whole plate paint half orange and half yellow. Paint the half plate orange).
  5. When the paint has dried, put the two whole plates together by taping half of each plate to each other. Make sure to only tape the edges of the halves.
  6. Turn the plates over and tape the orange piece onto the red half.
  7. Make a roll of tissue or crepe paper and cut slits on one side of it. Then tape the paper onto the back of the yellow part.
  8. Glue or paint on eyes (buttons, paint, or paper).
  9. Cut a hole in the heel of a sock for your thumb and put your hand inside. Then put your hand in the bird and use it as a puppet!
