Instructions

This activity will allow you to get up close to a jellyfish that you made yourself!

Supplies:

  • Plastic bag (gallon sized Ziploc)
  • Plastic bottle (1 liter)
  • Scissors
  • Sharpie
  • Blue food coloring
  • White yarn/string/ribbon
  • Water

  1. Cut open the bag along all the sides and cut off the zipper part of the bag.
  2. Place your finger in the center of the bag and wrap the bag around your finger.
  3. Use the marker to make a mark at approximately the second line on your finger.
  4. Remove your finger and create an O with your hand.
  5. Push the middle of the bag through your hand while following the line you made.
  6. Carefully fill the jellyfish’s head halfway with water and twist the bag so it does not leak.
  7. Use your string and tie the twisted part of the bag very tight so it does not leak.
  8. Fill the bottle up with water and drop in a couple drops of blue food coloring.
  9. Keep the water light blue or it will be difficult to see your jellyfish.
  10. Gently push the jellyfish into the bottle and make sure it is head up.
  11. Screw the lid onto the bottle tightly.
