Site Visit

Preparing for the Site Visit

After week 7 (in which you complete your midterm evaluation and your response to it), you will need to begin thinking about scheduling a mutually convenient date and time for your course instructor and your work supervisor to meet (you of course will be expected to be present as well).

The actual visit will most likely take place sometime in the last 1/3 of the summer. Because of the travel distance to some internships, the faculty advisor will try to schedule multiple internship visits on the same day to the same geographical area. This may take some time to organize.

During the Visit

During the visit, which should last close to an hour, you will briefly show your advisor around, explaining how you fit into the organization as a whole. Your advisor will want to speak with your supervisor, discuss the program and how well you are doing, and thank them for participating with you in this internship experience.

Here is the general itinerary of the site visit:

  1. Show your faculty advisor around your workplace
  2. Sit with your faculty advisor at your desk and show something interesting you have done.
  3. Discuss with your faculty advisor how your internship is going and the highlights and low-lights so far.
  4. Have your faculty advisor meet with your supervisor for 15-30 minutes to discuss how you are doing and to promote the School of Computing
  5. As time allows, go over your most recent essays and your writing style.

The above steps do not necessary have to be completed in that order.
