Fall EAE 4510

The purpose of a capstone course is to provide students with a venue to test and explore the skills they have learned throughout their academic careers and to provide them with guidance in abstracting their experience.

Students in the EAE capstone course will be tasked with making a videogame from the ground up. They will follow an industry model and work in teams to accomplish this goal. The professors will, as much as possible, contribute to process by acting as technical and creative producers on the project. Students will fill all engineering, creative, and administrative duties on the teams.

The games they will be creating will be similar in scope and design to those found on current generation console download services, such as Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network. Professionals create games for these services in, approximately, the same amount of time as this course, with a little help, students in this course will do the same. They should expect a challenge that will not only provide them with an excellent addition to their portfolio, but push them intellectually and personally, as working in teams always provides plenty of opportunities for "introspection."

By the end of the course students will have not only had the opportunity to experience what the process of game development is, but also work in an interdisciplinary environment where they interact not only with students and faculty from across campus, but also various professionals in the field.

The instructors are available by appointment, simply email us to set up a time. Feel free to catch us in our offices if we are available, although Bob is teaching master's classes 9 to 1 on T and H.

Near Graduation Requirement

Because this is your senior project, you must be near graduation in order to take this class. This means that you plan to graduate this spring semester or no later than this coming fall semester. The term that Computer Science uses is "within 4 CS classes of graduating." You will be required to sign a form attesting to this fact.
