Boolean operators are terms used to combine or exclude words from your search. They provide logic to your search.

The 3 Boolean operators are: AND, OR, NOT.

These Boolean operators are consistent across all library databases and resources.

Many search engines default to AND - so if you type heart attack into PubMed, it guesses that you're looking for heart AND attack.
