Labs: Installing Multisim & myDAQ
We will be using Multisim to simulate circuits and the myDAQ (hardware) to measure them.
Install both of these on your home computer, using the DVD that came with your textbook/myDAQ package.
Finding your Serial Number: For Multisim/Labview,look at the sticker on the plastic envelope that is in the back of the book. Some of the newer book printings have the SN on a sticker placed on the envelope, others have it on the disk or the envelope the disk is in. For the myDAQ, look on the envelope and disk that came in the myDAQ box. The Multisim and myDAQ serial numbers are different.
How? If you have the DVD from the back of your book and a DVD reader, just put in the Multisim DVD and follow the installation instructions.
- What if I don't have a computer? (or don't want to bring it to lab)? IF you do not have a home computer, you can use the computers in the ECE Computer Lab MEB 2555 or MEB 2365. To sign up for keycard access to these labs, fill this form out and return it to the ECE stockroom ECE Lab Key Card Access Request.pdf Download ECE Lab Key Card Access Request.pdf

What if I don't have a DVD reader? If you don't have a DVD reader, or if you don't have your book yet, download multisim from the NI website
Links to an external site., and install it. Here are details: NI myDAQ installation guide.docx
Download NI myDAQ installation guide.docx If you have the DVD, you will use the code on your DVD. If you don't, use the evaluation copy until your book arrives.
- What if I have a MAC?
- You will need a dual boot system to run Windows software. The UofU Bookstore has a Mac support team that can set this up for you (I think it is about $60?). Or, if you feel comfortable, you can do this yourself:

- You will need a CADE Lab Links to an external site. login. This will allow you to:
- Download software you will need for installing a windows environment on a MAC computer
- Have 24/7 access to Cade lab, which is widely used in engineering classes. MATLAB is available in the CADE labs.
To create a CADE login account:
- Go to https://webhandin.eng.utah.edu/cade
- Click on "I would like to Create An Account/Retrieve My Username."
- Enter your CIS login info and get a user name to login with.
- The password will be the same as your CIS login password.
- What if I want to use the Lab computers?
- You will need a CADE Lab Links to an external site. login. This will allow you to:
- Login to the ECE Lab computers, which have myDAQ and Multisim and MATLAB.
