Resources: Technology
This page provides a set of links for creating, uploading, and managing your video lectures. All the great stuff, so you can create your lectures 'by the pool' (ok, please don't really DO that ... when you go on vacation, enjoy your vacation!)
To Create your Video Lecture, you will need:
1) Hardware to write/notate/record. That generally means a PC or tablet (listed under hardware below), a Stylus (if it didn't already come with your tablet, such as for iPads), and an external microphone/headset. If you want a picture of your face/you talking, you will also need a video cam and decent lighting. (Dr. Furse's favorite pick -- an older model HP Thinkpad laptop and skype headset.)
See: Hardware Recommendation Page (For quick reference, Dr. Furse's top picks are marked with a star.)
2) Software for screen capture / video recording (listed under software, below). Some of this software will also let you edit / annotate / add titles slides, etc. That is great, but beware of the time required to do this. (Dr. Furse's favorite pick: ink2go Links to an external site. for simple applications, Camtasia Links to an external site. for things you might want to edit, Panopto Links to an external site. for multiple cameras)

3) A place to upload/store your video lectures. Your university may have options, and there are several public options as well. (Dr. Furse's favorite pick: YouTube Links to an external site. with creative commons 'share alike' license and public access.

4) A place to organize your class and link video lectures. We are using Canvas at University of Utah and Salt Lake Community College. Other options exist at other schools. This is probably something you are already using for course management. Check with your IT support staff for how best to upload and/or link videos. (Dr. Furse's favorite pick: Canvas or whatever learning management system your university uses.)
