Course: Homework, Questions of the Day (nitty gritty details)
HomeWork (HW):
- What will be in the homework (what am I supposed to turn in)? Homework includes the 'Question of the Day' and several problems from the book. (For example HW 2-1 )
- What are the Questions of the Day (QoD): Each day there will be a question(s) associated with the lecture. The question might be "How do you calculate the voltage and current in a multi-resistor network?", which you should answer in your own words. The instructions (typically half a page or so) should be written so YOU can understand them and should include all necessary equations, constants, tables, etc. Yes, you can include any notes that are useful to you for this question.
- When will it be assigned? Homework will be assigned daily.
- When Should I do it? To learn the material most efficiently, attempt the homework before we discuss it in class, and finish it before the next day of class.
- When Is it Due? Due dates are once a week, but it is not advisable to wait until Sunday night to work on your homework. Do it each day before the next class, and bring questions to class if needed. HomeWork (which includes the Questions of the Day) is due at noon on Tuesday. Homework assigned Monday is due the following Tuesday. Due Dates are posted on each assignment and can be viewed various ways on Canvas, see: Reference & Resource Material
- How do I turn it in? Most assignments can be turned in EITHER on paper or online. Options:
- Turn paper HW in to the ECE homework lockers (in the middle hallway on the third floor of MEB near the Homework Return Room, MEB 3330). Have pity on the grader and be neat, please.
- OR turn it in online. See instructions on canvas: Reference & Resource Material. Please STAPLE or SCAN them in this order: QOD1, HW1, QOD2, HW2, QOD3, HW3. Please start each QOD on a separate page.
- How will it be graded? Homework will be checked (graded) for completeness only, and the homework solutions will be available online. (For example HW 2-1 ) Sure, you can just copy them. BUT that is a very poor way to learn, and learning is what I am after. Your goal is to learn the material, and the homework is a tool to do that. If you need to look at the solutions to complete the homework, then do it. But look at some of the 'similar problems' solutions as well, until you no longer need to look at the solutions to complete the work.
- You Mean I can use all of my QODs on the Exam?! Yep, that's right. You can use anything you have written in the QODs as well as other resources, such as cookbooks, as specified in class, on the exam. Exams will be open QOD notes, open specified resources, but closed book, so include everything in your QOD that you need to solve the problems. You may include tables and figures copied from the text, but please don't copy the text itself. Questions of the Day will be checked (graded) for completeness only. You are responsible for making sure your notes on the QOD are correct and that you can understand them.
- How do I get my Homework back? Your homework, exams and labs will be returned in your student file in MEB 3330. If you prefer NOT to have your materials left in your student file, put your file folder in the very back of the drawer and pick them up during the instructor's office hours.
- When Will I get my homework back? All homework, exams, labs should be returned within one week of when they were turned in (not counting holidays/breaks). If they are not, please contact the instructor.
- How Can I See My Grades? See Canvas getting started guides Reference & Resource Material
- How Can I get help on my homework? See Tutoring Hours
- Extra Credit: Extra Credit can be used if you forget to turn in your homework, if you just don’t do it, etc. These can be used to give you a maximum of 100% on your combined HW/Lab scores. Extra credit assignments can be turned in to the HW box through the last day of class. You can find extra credit throughout the semester on the class website.
